The Legacy of The Comrads
The Comrads was a gangsta rap duo from Lynwood, California made up of Terrell “Gangsta” Anderson and Kelly “K-Mac” Garmon. The group became known in Los Angeles in 1997 after releasing their debut album The Comrads and the single “Homeboyz.” The song helped put them on the map in West Coast hip hop.
The duo later signed to Mack 10’s Hoo-Bangin’ Records and released their second and final album, Wake Up & Ball, in 2000. The Comrads were closely connected to West Coast rap artists like Mack 10 and Ice Cube.
After the group split up, K-Mac joined Mack 10’s group Da Hood and appeared on Mack 10 Presents da Hood in 2002. Gangsta later released a solo album called Penitentiary Chances through Heat Rocc Entertainment in 2003.
Their first album, The Comrads, was released on July 8, 1997 through Street Life Records. Production came from producers including “Big Jess” Willard, Young Tre, Ant Banks, Binky Mack, Bub, and Gangsta himself. The album featured appearances from Westside Connection and AllFrumTha I.
It reached #113 on the Billboard 200 chart, while the single “Homeboyz” also appeared on the Billboard charts.
